Internship Nepal's Interns Elina and Karina from Russia and Kazakhstan visited some remote areas of the western region of the contry for their research on ‘Bonded labourers situation in Nepal.’ Their supervisor from Internship Nepal also accompanied them.

We still have bonded labourers who work for landlords in the western part of country. Mainly, people from the Tharu community are working for their landlord free of cost or in very low wages generation to generation because their forefather got a loan with very high interest from the landlord.

The interns met some of the bonded labourers and their family members as well as the member of NGOs working for betterment of their lives and fighting for their rights. It was just a 3 days trip of the interns to some villages of Dang district. Elina is writing a thesis for her masters degree on this issue.
