We have three different levels of photojournalism within our program which cover basic learning to professional journalism and photojournalism.

1. Photojournalism with Basic training:

Those people who want to start their career in the life of Photojournalism or Photography we will provide basic training on how to operate a camera. These include the basic things that you need to know before handling a DSLR camera such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO focusing, depth of field etc.

If you have a new DSLR camera but you only know how to operate your auto feature, we will give you an understanding about how to use the camera in manual and other modes. We provide training with theoretical and practical use. After completing one week long training our experienced photojournalist will take you in the field for photography practice. We regularly organize cultural and landscape tours, and night and news photography practice. Intern/volunteers will have the opportunity to take pictures of rallies, sit-in programs, and political demonstrations. We encourage them to upload news worthy pictures in our blog which we send to all news papers.

We encourage students of photojournalism to join this program. Many happy students have done internships with us in the past and you can see their testimonials on our website.

 2. Freelance Photojournalism

One to five month 'intensive Freelance Photojournalism Internship' provides interested students or volunteers an opportunity to explore & work with Nepal’s great culture, beauty, people and media outlets. Our program consists of 4 main components:

In this program experienced photojournalists coordinate, make regular assignments, plan work and facilitate them to develop photo stories, photo documentaries, photo essays, photo features etc.

Students/volunteers will be informed about daily happenings and coordinators/photojournalists will take  them to the field. We will gather photos and distribute them to the related media eg: National Dailies the Kathmandu Post, The Rising Nepal, My Republica, The Himalayan Times etc.

Under this program students can explore issues, do research and collect information themselves in a similar environment to the newsroom of news papers.

The final product of the student will be distributed to the related media houses which can use as per their needs.

Students can share problems faced during the time of identifying issues, research, shooting and editing. In regular meetings with photojournalists we will help to enhance your knowledge in a practical way.

The final product will be presented via multimedia to a mass audience of a mostly targeted group, eg policymakers, photojournalists, editors and representatives from related organizations at the end of the program.

Those international students and volunteers who are not available to work in media house and want to do freelance internships, this is also an option.

 3. Photojournalism with local media:

Nepali media still need experience photojournalists. Experience photojournalists/photographers who want to utilize his/her time volunteering in Nepali media, we will arrange placement of them in different National Daily News Papers, online news portals and magazines.

For this internship applicant need to send their updated CV at least one month in advance and we will send it to the Editor of concerned newspapers.

We will do interviews and test your ability of operating a camera, language skills etc. After this we will decide whether they are fit to send work to news media or magazines.

This is a time bound placement (you will need to dedicate time to all 6 working days) and a more skillful job so we encourage you to apply only if you are an experienced photojournalist or photographer.
